What is Wing Chun?

Wing Chun Gung Fu is a unique Chinese martial art that was developed approximately 300 years ago. Wing Chun's deceptivly simple forms reveal a close range combat system noted for its speed, aggressiveness and efficiency of movement.

The system is comprised of three hand forms, one wooden dummy form, the butterfly swords, the 61/2 point long staff and the Chi Sao, or sticky hands, training method unique to Wing Chun. Chi Sao helps develop self-confidence, aggressiveness, trapping attacks, controlling motions, flowing power, feeling, timing and distance, as well as mastery over the techniques. When practiced correctly, the system of Wing Chun will lead to balanced development of the 3 aspects: physical, mental and spiritual.

During training students are taught how the forms break down into techniques that can be applyed to both free-sparring and Chi Sao practice. Over time students the ability and confidence to apply the full variety of Wing Chun techniques to defend themselves on the streets.
